Men and women may, without becoming monks or nuns, join our monastic community spiritually through a special bond known as secular oblation. Oblation is a promise by which the oblate commits to striving for perfection in the Christian life, drawing inspiration from the Rule of Saint Benedict, with the support of our community.
The oblate therefore seeks to live in the world according to the spirit of the Rule of Saint Benedict. Silence and peace, obedience and humility occupy a central place in their spiritual life. The oblate unites themselves as best they can with the liturgical prayer of their monastery. In this way, they fully develop the grace of their baptism, at the heart of the Church.
A monk appointed by the abbot, the Master of the Oblates, is at the service of the Oblates, to guide and advise them. A commitment to the Oblates may be made following a period of probation and formation lasting at least two years.
